If Bucharest alone has not provided enough contrasts, get on that odd commuter train, minibus, van or, huh, taxi (better ride a bike) and explore the countryside around the city. Fine palaces, secluded monasteries, serene villages and plenty of that already familiar (but not only familiar) unexpected, all are waiting for you.
